![]() After the collapse of the Seventh Sin project, Dan Gober, the Jester, and I resurrected the Zadoc: Vampire Theatre name. Unfortunately, due to his new-found role as an expectant father, the Jester had to resign after only a few short months, as part of his new plans were to move out of state with his new wife. Little did I realize that the floodgates of my major problems with Dan were about to be released. After Dan convinced me to put the guitar down for a while to focus on becoming a more energetic and mobile frontman, there was still the matter of finding a replacement for the Jester as well as my vacant guitar slot. Reluctantly, Dan agreed to my suggestion of bringing Steve Moore back to the fold - just as I reluctantly agreed to his suggestion - to hire a complete novice to fill the percussion slot - in Dan's words, "because he looks good". So came to be Kyle Proia as our percussionist. He was outfitted with a non-traditional setup including a hanging bass drum, and as a nod to our old friends in 99¢ Special - two 55 gallon steel drums which were hastily painted black to match the rest of the kit. Kyle's armament of 'drum sticks' were a bit unconventional as well - which included large rubber hammers and timpani mallets. Although his abilities were marginal at best - he did suit Dan's needs very well. He certainly had a distinct look and keen fashion sense. It was anybody's guess as to what color Kyle's hair might be, as well as to what color contact lenses he might be wearing as well. Usually a sharp dresser to boot, Kyle was quite a sight to behold. His 'image' may have hid the fact that he had little passion for the instrument Dan dropped him in front of. After a few months, Kyle persuaded me to let him try out the keyboards - offering up his good friend, Russell David Pope Jr. to fill his drum throne. Once founding guitarist Kirk Brinley was brought back into the fold, problems began to arise between Kirk and Dan - leading Dan to 'quit' for the first of many times, and convincing Russell and Kyle to join him in leaving. Although Dan and even Russell managed to eventually find their way back to the band, Kyle opted to stay out of band-life. I've run into Kyle on occasion and he even attended my wedding back in October of 2000, but we are not in close contact. The last I have recently heard pertaining to Kyle is that he works at a local tattoo and piercing parlor in Liverpool, NY. |
