![]() "Talk good about Guns N' Roses and you'll have yourself a friend." - Exit of 99¢ Special - quoted from 99¢ Special website In the days before the internet boom, us computer geeks frequented what was called electronic BBS's (Bulletin Board System) for our kicks. RaYzor, Jeff Densmore, and I were not an exception. Of the many BBS's we frequented, a small BBS by the name of Magic Kingdom was where Jeff and I first ran into RaYzor. He made himself a very unpopular user of that BBS by being his normal prankster self. As soon as he told me that he played drums, we began to e-mail each other a bit more often. At that time we were at the end of our rope with our current drummer, Rich Hough, and his annoying disappearing acts. We met RaYzor for the first time in person at a Halloween party (in which we also met future band member / antagonist Dan Gober) and a month later he had joined the band. RaYzor is also responsible for introducing the band to it's long-lasting love of Amiga computers and a simple, yet very powerful sequencing program OctaMED (which ironically replaced our drummers a few years later.) RaYzor continued to play numerous shows with us until a friend of his enlisted him as a keyboardist for an industrial theatrical band named 99¢ Special. For a short while, RaYzor was doing both projects until our former drummer persuaded us to give him another chance. After about a month, we found ourselves following the same path of 99¢ Special and turning to our beloved Amiga 500 to sequence samples, drum machine, and synthesizers. RaYzor made a brief return after the demise of 99¢
Special playing keyboards for us, and rejoining as a live drummer
accompanying our drum machine a year later. After the band collapsed,
RaYzor also put on the bass guitar for my next project, the 7th Sin.
RaY's strange and erratic job changes, as well as reluctance to work with
long time friend and newest addition Dan
Gober saw him not rejoining the
1999 version of the band. However, we did see a fun guest drumming
appearance in 2001 when the band recorded their version of the Guns
N' Roses track, Rocket Queen for a forthcoming tribute album. |
