![]() When I began my courtship of Kim Mercier, I was inevitably introduced to Witchy. Witchy was an extremely creative, intelligent, down to earth woman with a keen motherly instinct that was destined to keep us all in line. When Kim first joined the band, Mother Witch had learned all of her keyboard parts herself and became a 'backup' keyboardist so to speak. But Witchy preferred to do her magic behind the scenes being involved primarily as our manager, booking agent, and mother to us all. Witchy made sure that our theatrical supplies were in full stock, that fliers for upcoming shows had been drawn up and copied, that our mailing list was sent out, as well as painstakingly creating (with the help of Dark Cloud) each monthly newsletter complete with her original hand drawn art. She put a lot of professionalism into the band making laminated passes for the band and the roadies, and even substituting as our makeup artist when our makeup artist couldn't attend a show. Although she did perform keyboards at several of our shows, it was only due to the unavailability of our current keyboardist even though she was a natural. One of the hardest decisions I had to make when I left this very band in 1997 was to lose what Witchy had built from love and respect. If for any reason I could feel any regret for my decision to leave the band in that time, it would be the loss of working with Mother Witch. Witchy got married shortly after the 1997 collapse of the band and went on to mother two strong young sons. Unfortunately, her marriage did not last, but Witchy lives happily with her two sons and new boyfriend in East Syracuse, New York. My wife is still close friends with Witchy and they see eachother from time to time. |
